About

Kayla D. Davis

I love the way the sun kisses the earth as it rises in the morning and retires gracefully behind the Western mountain ranges in the evening with its skirts of vibrant purples and lacy pinks trailing behind. I love the bite of crisp fall air and the smell of horses coming back from a long ride. Born and raised in Nevada, my senses are atune to the beauty and mystery of the West.

Since leaving my hometown to pursue higher education over 20 years ago, I’ve called the Las Vegas Valley my home. I am one of those country folks, trying hard to fit in in some city, as George Strait would say. My love for my daughter, and her love of dance and acting and modeling keeps me here in the big city. The 24-7 access to delicious food might also play a part…?

My escape is writing. I imagine myself on a mountain top, small fire burning with Jack London resting in my lap and just write. Sometimes, admittedly, it isn’t any good, what makes it to paper, but it’s cathartic and healing and simply a representation of the gritty woman I am.

I graduated from University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a Bachelor’s in 2008. It took nine years of saving and going when I could afford to go, to graduate. When I did, I was married and had an 18-month old daughter. Today, I am a single mom of a 13 year old wonder, and I spend long days at work as an energy projects manager in the engineering and asset management department for the largest casino and hospitality provider in North America.
